Charlie Hendrix

Charlie Hendrix was born on October 30, 1930, to the late Audie and George Hendrix. Audie passed when Charlie was two years old. George remarried to Alberta Chambers affectionately known as “Ma Bert “or “Birdie Mae”, who preceded him in death. Charlie was the fourth of five children.

He confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Pleasant Ridge Church in Noxapater, Mississippi. He served in the Army for eight years. Upon returning home, he received his barber license and worked as a barber until moving to Cleveland, Ohio.

Charlie married Ora Lee McKinley, who preceded him in death, to this union, two sons were born. Later in life, he met and married Doris Tatum, to this union four daughters were born.

Charlies was a Trustee at Mt Moriah AME Church and he enjoyed singing with the Quartets representing the Pleasant Ridge church.

Charlie belonged to the Teamster Union Local 19. He was a foreman and a tow motor driver at Krogers Bakery until he retired. He was the manager and player for the Kroger Jets Baseball Team.

His favorite hobbies was singing, fishing and dancing like James Brown. He created his own language and you had to be a family member or a close friend to understand it.

He is survived by: Doris Hendrix, five children: Renardo (Mamie), Finnis (Ruth), both of Louisville, Mississippi, Charlene, Angela, Vonda (Harold) and Sonya (Tony) of Texas. One surviving sister, Walterine Gage, a favorite niece & nephew, Monique Jenkins (David) and Arthur Gibson (Pam), twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. A host of relatives and friends.
