Elsie was born to the union of Abbie (nee Duhardt) and Mack Griffin on November 23, 1919 in Pope City Wilcox, Georgia. She led out six generations of Griffins and shared her wisdom and knowledge with us all. She fought a good fight and lived 96 years, her goal was 100, but the Lord called his daughter home on January 21, 2016.
E. K. Fountain found Elsie and made her his bride on February 7, 1949. That union was truly blessed and they blessed all who crossed their path. Together they reared three children: Bessie, Rudy and April. They loved to travel and entertain family and friends. Elsie was a retiree of a company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. E.K. and Elsie relocated to Atco, New Jersey in March 1968, while living there Elsie was a faithful member of Grant A.M.E. Church. She also served as a treasurer of Club Aloha. E.K. preceded her in death (September 1993). In 1999, Elsie moved to Cleveland, Ohio She joined Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church. She lived every day to the fullest-enjoying her loved ones-as the Queen, the Matriarch of this Griffin clan.
Surviving Elsie are: two daughters: Bessie Gaul of Dorchester, MA and April Fountain of Cleveland, OH, one son: Rudy Fountain, of Cleveland, OH., nine grandchildren: Ali, Anthony, Victor, Paul, Darryl and Steven of Dorchester, MA and Sequia, Phillip and Darnell of Cleveland, OH. , and one sister-in-law: Jenny Griffin of Cleveland, OH and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, eights sibling and one grandson.
