What 1950’s American Mom didn’t LOVE the appearance of Spring Blooms? I always buy tulips in memory of my own Mom, and thought Mrs Robinson might have also loved them. It was a Time and a way of Life that brings powerful memories for we Baby Boomers: anything that grew up & out of the earth had a Season! And so, to every Season, I send heartfelt condolences to Calvin, Mercier and their family & friends.

Mrs. Robinson was simply one of the sweetest and most kind people I have known. Not only did I grow up knowing her my entire life, when I began playing for our church, it was Mrs. Robinson who helped me most of all. Mrs. Robinson played for all the choirs and over the years stretched to adjust to the many musical changes in ways that not many trained musicians would tolerate. In our church, the choir director did not need to be a trained musician. As a result, we directors would often introduce music that quite literally fell to Mrs Robinson to teach from the piano. In all my years, not once did I ever see her resentful or mean spirited. She was in all ways and at all times a fine example of what the gifts the Holy Spirit brings forth in the lives of the saints. Mrs. Robinson was a great student, wife, mother, professional musician and friend. There are hundreds, if not thousands whose lives were Blessed because of her faithfulness in music alone, not to mention her mastery in other aspects of a great life. Her family, her church, her neighbors and friends all rise this day to call her “Blessed” And in my spiritual imagination, I see her having fried pies from Sis Chandler’s oven, Flake Cake from her cousin Bernice’s, Capon & Dressing from mom, approving smiles from her Aunt Mary and Uncle Sammy, a pinch and a wink from her Aunt Bee & Mae Helen, and next to Jesus himself, one of the greatest and most kind men I’ve known, Calvin Robinson embraces his wife, the love of each other’s lives as the whole of heaven welcomes this great daughter back home.
